Ok, out of curiosity I rewatched this show while taking copious notes to settle on a type for Oreki…..It has become glaringly obvious Oreki is an INTJ, and I am a little disappointed I originally mistyped him as an INTP: This is a rather lengthy explanation that goes beyond mbti and delves into deeper character analysis, so prepare for the word wall. We are going to start off with some background on what Ni means since I notice plenty of people lack a proper understanding of this cognitive function: Ni is the cognitive function responsible for applying a line of best fit to anticipate future trajectories, and frequently shifts through various perspectives to extrapolate this line. Introverted Intuition would prompt us to liberate our sense impressions from their larger context, thereby creating new options for perception itself. It is important to note that Ni-doms live in a world of multiple conflicting perspectives, and that “many” is not synonymous with Ne. Ok, moving on. Evidence of Ni can be seen when he tells Satoshi he is going to find the festival culprit without catching him in the act and without finding a connection between the clubs (which pisses Satoshi off for not needing sequential evidence to draw conclusions, but as an Ni user this comes easily to him - it is common for these users to hypothesis first, then piece together evidence to back up their hunch). He finds answers in impossible circumstances thanks to Ni (a cognitive function named “perspectives”), he is adept at looking at various different perspectives to find a “line of best fit”, averaging out several different viewpoints to discover what is most likely. He is great at flipping his own perspective due to being a dominant Ni-user, and is able to switch terms to define a single vision.
