What personality type is Mark Watney? Mark Watney is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 6w7 - so/sx - 638 in Enneagram, SCUEI in Big 5, ILE in Socionics.
WHY SIX ENNEGRAM? I’m having a hard time seeing this guy as a six. Not saying it’s possible but I don’t see him fitting into any of the patterns that a six has especially mentally. Sixes are very anxious and fearful people and have a tendency to be very aware of their anxieties. Not only that but the social 6s strategy towards dealing with this is by rule following and this is the complete opposite of who Mark is. Mark in fact is not a rule follower. In fact the only way he survives is by breaking protocol itself. He instead relies on planning and creative ideas to get himself through situations which fits the mental pattern of what sevens are about. They’re types that have to be mentally stimulated to get by and this describes who Mark is. He plays around with a lot of ideas and has lots of futuristic plans that help him survive. He’s a glutton for knowledge and seems to fit the verbal wit and bravado that sevens are known for. Now of course he’s not that gluttonous but I think that’s because he’s a social 7. The thing about his character is that he’s more glutinous about the image he receives from other people because he likes the narcissism it brings him. In fact, it becomes very clear that he is quite narassistic or self indulgent in his identity. He’s constantly praising himself and joking about all his achievements on Mars which fits the narcissism patterns of a seven. He jokes about how he wants all the memorials to be about him when he gets home and seems to relish in the fame he has when he is back on earth where he’s teaching other people. He enjoys the social status he has to appear extraordinary which fits social 7s and their need to appear extraordinary to others. The last thing I want to point out is that he’s clearly a hidden rebel. He’s always going against authority, breaking protocol, disregarding others wishes because he wants to try out his ideas and the mental stimulation it brings him in a survival situation. Anyways this is just my take feel free to discuss it with me
