Usually when the trolls and bigots come here they only have one thing to talk about.. Prophet Muhammads marriage to the honorable Aisha so here is my standard reply. Firstly there is difference of opinion based on research of Islamic tradition that she was either nine years of age or eighteen years. So lets assume that she was nine which is the excuse for the controversy today. Firstly we are judging a culture 14 centuries ago by the norms and ideals of today. In doing so we should ask.. did his action during his era contradict the norms of the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY at that time. I guarantee you that if you research the time period you will find it was commonplace that a girl could be engaged at any age by consent of her father (research Jewish custom) but the marriage would be consumated when the girl reached puberty. At the time a minor was considered someone who did not experience menses. This was the norm in christainity judaism as well as in pagan society at the time (bearing in mind that so was polygamy and slavery). Muhammads action did not contravene the norms of the day. Evidence of this is that with all the defamation of character that he faced none of his enemies slurred him with Peadophile unlike his contempoary the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius head of all christendom who "married his niece" and committed incest to the chagrin of the church. All of christendom was in uproar about that because it was seen as unacceptable. Muhammad could never be accused of that.
