What personality type is Tong? Tong is an ISFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w1 - so/sp - 268 in Enneagram, in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.
In all honesty, we don’t see enough of him in the movie to really get a good idea as to his actual type. My first thought was that the 8w7 vote is a stereotype based on his first appearance in the movie, and while I still stand by that initial sentiment and something does feel a bit off about this typing, literally the only info about him on his Disney Wiki page is: “Underneath his huge, gruff, and fierce exterior, Tong is really a lonely woodsman with a soft spot for little ones. Equal parts severity and softness, he is truly a gentle giant,” “Likes: children, kanji, evoking fear, rain,” and “ I wish to join this fellowship of Druun butt-kickery!” none of which make the decision between 2 and 8 any easier. However, he wasn’t going to join Raya until he met Noi, who completely lowered his guard. We can argue that our first impression of Tong is affected by the situation, since he is the only one left to defend his village after losing everyone, including his wife and child, to the Druun, and is now faced with complete strangers who have approached his home during a war that came about through betrayal. In addition, one could make the argument that 2 goes into 8 in stress, and Tong was clearly at the point of stress when he is first introduced in the story. I’m only setting that perspective on the table, we don’t know enough about him to determine that for sure.
