Biography
Gaius is a Roman centurion and serves as Matthew’s guard at his tax collector’s booth. He isn’t quite a villain due to his pragmatism and sympathy, but he isn’t fully behind Jesus’ teachings either. Gaius is presented as a rule-follower and a loyal centurion to Quintus in the early seasons. However, throughout the series, he undergoes a remarkable transformation from a centurion skeptic to a friend of the apostles. Gaius has also demonstrated fondness for Matthew and concern for his well being. It isn’t until Season 3 that we learn more about Gaius’ backstory and how he gradually becomes impacted by Jesus's miraculous healings.
