What personality type is Dr. Jonas Venture Sr.? Dr. Jonas Venture Sr. is an personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - sx/so - 371 in Enneagram, in Big 5, LIE in Socionics.
I lean towards ESTP or possibly ENTP for Jonas. His son Jonas Jr. is the ENTJ in the family, and they're very different people. Jonas Venture Sr. is an amoral, narcissistic thrill seeker, however, I see signs of Fe in him, he does seem to value team Venture, he beats up the islanders who kidnapped Rusty mostly because they insulted him by treating his son with kindness while he was off adventuring. The islanders only let Rusty go because they couldn't contact Jonas and felt sorry for him. Even if Jonas doesn't care much about his son, he's very sensitive to how he's perceived by others. He initially attacks the Blue Morpho for rescuing him since it was a blow to his ego, but then he befriends him and ruins his life with zero remorse when he sees how he can use BM for his ends, even going so far as to turn him into a cyborg after his death. However, despite how bad this makes him look, he's still friendly and casual with BM and insists that he's "still helping" by provoking him into remembering his past. When confronted at Gargantua, he has no fear of Vedanta opening the bay doors, as "his friend would never do such a thing." This is odd but he does seem to believe it sincerely. This is what puts me off ENTJ - Jonas fully believes his hype, there's no struggle with his values, since all he values is adventuring and looking cool. He isn't cold to Rusty, he's mostly disappointed in how normal he was and loses interest in him sporadically. Stuff like pretending to give him therapy and his attempts at encouragement come off as badly developed Fe. Also, while Jonas is certainly a manipulator, there's not much in the way of a long term vision other than the PROBLEM and cloning technology. He's largely responsible for the current infrastructure of heroes/villains, but only because this provides him with a never-ending source of adventure. He ensured that there are always more people lining up to be villains for him to fight. Compare him to JJ, who is much more of a super scientist who dismissed the hero/villain thing as silly and wanted to live up to the ideals he thought his father stood for. I hope the movie shows what ultimately became of him after the ProbLEM incident but honestly collecting dust in some OSI archive is a very fitting end for Jonas Venture Sr.
