I feel compelled to give my opinion as there is no real in-depth analysis of the character yet. Caveat: this refers to the movie only, although it relates with the historical character as well. I believe the Enneagram is the easiest part, although subtle: he's as much an E3 as it gets. You have to ask yourself: why does he do what he does? Is he really just a "brute", as many say throughout the movie, just willing to have cannons hitting whatever is in front of him? Just a bloody mass-murderer, as the final title sequence suggests? I don't think the movie points to that. I thing the movie is a fine portrait of the inner contradictions of the guy, but the bottom line is that he is as ambitious as it gets. Some evidence: the coronation and his speech "I've found the crown in the mud, cleaned it and put it atop my head" IIRC, utterly narcissistic and megalomaniac, with all the paraphernalia of a god on earth, very grand but image oriented; the luxury that permeates the environment he has for himself, including the "N" giving the extra individualistic touch of "I'm the best"; the attention to clothing, looking the part; the stiffness of his image - just look at the courtship or the way he stages his encounters with Josephine. Differential analysis. 3 vs 2: 2s seduce people, 3s seduce systems. He wants to be likable by objective standards, a.k.a. being successful; 2s just want you to like them, more personal, seducing you (compare with Tsar Alexander, E2 in the movie). 3 vs 8: 8 don't care about how they look (think about Patton), 3 very much so. The w4 is pretty clear too: just look at his inner turmoil, the usual 3-4 clash. So first is quite clear too (status) and sx second (well, sex! in a E3 efficient way...) so 3w4 so/sx. MBTI: you really have to ask whether he's N or S. If he was S, he would be some sort of STP, good at tactics, operating things & people in real time, looking for impact, enjoying the thrill of the heat of the battle. But that's not what we see of him in the movie: he's cold, detached; we don't see the planning phase, but it's pretty clear that all battles have been played in his head long before the real thing happens, so that the battle itself is less real than the strategy, the abstract version of it, as they always unfold as he foresaw (from the Toulon attack to the fort to Austerlitz, just the execution of a well-crafted strategy). Therefore, he's an NTJ, a great strategist. E vs I: he's not very outgoing, but real-life ENTJ aren't necessarily. They're not focused on people, just more E than INTJ. And that is the case here: he commands people with ease with a strategy in mind, has no problem rallying his forces in person, just finds it inefficient and prefers to use the chain of command (NJT after all). And has a decent presence on the field, while INTJ would stay behind, even not being the general themself, just having a frontman for that. Therefore, ENTJ is the best fit. Just to corroborate: E3 ENTJ are smoother than E8 ENTJ, with more restraint and inner contradictions, which is the case here. He's not insulting everybody as a stereotypical ENTJ 8 would (think Logan Roy in Succession). So, for people typing with functions: this movie is a great portrait of Fi-inferior in a real ENTJ: a great irrational mess underneath the personality of a bulldozer (Te-Ni). Repressed feelings, fears, attachments and inner incongruences. Very interesting to watch. If you prefer, the w4 side of an E3, tripping the guy off at every corner. It's the constant 3-4 clash. He still achieves spectacularly, but doesn't quite enjoy it. And it also confirms the gut feeling I had while watching the movie: namely, that on-screen Napoleon is quite compatible with IRL Napoleon, so much that they omit large chunks of his life just because we all know them already, but there's no contradictions with those. Note: Napoleon is typed as ENTJ by Keirsey in "Please Understand Me II)"
