I think something that a lot of people are missing here is the context of the movie. Milo’s main interest is Atlantis. His other skills (linguistics, cartography, and a bit of plumbing) that he applies to his ideas about Atlantis and the expedition itself are the other things he’s interested in and good at. When INTPs get to use their Ti to engage with their interests, they can appear more confident, passionate, strong-willed. Now, for the high Fi claims. I think many people are confusing Fi with slightly developed Fe and the passion for his interests that comes from his Ti. A lot of people are used to seeing INTPs portrayed as cold thinkers that live their lives free of the complexities of emotion and other people. Sometimes INTPs do present this way, but this is a really unhealthy manifestation of the type if you think about it. I think most INTPs aren’t like that. It is very hard to be successful in this world with undeveloped inf Fe. I’d say that most of us learn the basics because we are also somewhat lazy and non-confrontational. It’s a lot less tiring to just learn some Fe skills than to constantly be butting heads with people because you only know how to use Ti. If you look at most of his interactions with others in the movie, he is really just following the other person in the interaction because he doesn’t know what to do. (I’ve learned as well that this is an easy way to seem a bit more socially competent.) He’s not a smooth talker so he can’t convince the museum people to do the Atlantis expedition. Also, I’d say that his reaction to the bullying he experienced by the other expedition members is telling of his low Fe and lack of high Fi. He kind of just ignored it and turned to his Ti interests. Instead of feeling bad and trying to understand what is wrong with him that causes the others reject him (Fi), he turns off his emotional response and focuses on what he likes and is good at (Ti). It’s important for me that people understand that he’s an INTP because I feel like most of the representations of us are not what many of us are like in real life. We aren’t emotionless geniuses. We are normal people who make mistakes and are dumb sometimes (especially socially) and who can get excited and feel things. I think some other INTP characters that would be comparable are Hiccup Haddock from How to Train Your Dragon and Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls.
