I don't think i'm gonna change anyone's mind, but I'll throw in my two cents on why I think he’s either ENFP or ESFP. It seems most people are forgetting the fact that Howl was a magical creative genius from a very early age and was very keen on exploring the world around him: we not only hear this directly from Suliman, but we also see this in his childhood scene where he seems to be more drawn to being alone with books and falling stars/demons. He is dominantly driven by his need to seek new ideas and experiences in a quick and broad manner, which is a trait shared by ExxPs. Early on in his life, he didn't seem to gravitate to using Fe at all to approach the world (no gravitation towards community at all/ small *** social circle, and no large concern for people's feelings. For Fe, u need more evidence than “peace” and him picking up chicks. His love of meeting new people and leaving them just as quickly can just as easily be an Ne-dom or Se-dom curiosity thing; especially if done without consideration. We don't even get much reasoning for why he does this, so why are you all harping on it? Additionally, I just wanna say that beauty and perfection can be very connected to Te, as well; Just look at the business of the fashion world.) Before the events of the movie, he clearly studied magic and explored the hell out of it with no particular goal in mind. Just exploration. Doesn't sound like Ni with inferior Ti. I can see an argument for dom Se (if that's how magic works), but not Fe dom. It sounds more like Ne with an Fi desire and some mad Te productivity/ power trip. (Also, being aware of/ referencing the foundations and rules (and limits) of a magical system is a trait that I would expect out of a Te user, or at least a high Ti user such as ENTPs. An example of Howl doing this is when he talks to Calcipher about the "hack wizards" that attacked him, then speculating with him about the foolishness and cost of their transformation.) If there IS something key about howl's character, it's the fact that he's always running. Running from everything. He's done this from a very early age. This lack of direction in his life sounds much more like ExFP than an ENFJ with auxiliary Ni. (I haven’t read any good aux Ni examples at all mentioned in this thread, which is sus.) He ran away from Suliman, and when the war came, he ran away from that too; though he opposed it, he realistically did nothing to stop it. He may have creatively found a way to play all sides by elaborately changing his identity and sabotaging both sides (sounds like Ne), but at the end of the day, he didn't actively try fostering peace, instead, he just delayed the inevitable by doing something “selfish” on his own (appeasing his own moral idealism [through tangible, yet short-sighted action] which results in him overestimating his limits). I just also wanna quickly mention that Howl's messy castle is actually a good argument for ExFP, Not because all ExxPs are messy, but because the moving castle is actually supposed to be a symbolic representation of Howl as a person: Utterly lost and without proper form.
