god, he's such a good character. great ISFJ to contrast joel's ISTJ. very emotionally driven and that ends up causing a pretty interesting rift between the two for the first game, and carries forward in such an unhealthy way in the second game. with both maria and ellie. he kind of causes everybody to have a push & pull type relationship with him by virtue of being a really strong minded dude that's unwilling to compromise in the midst of shit falling apart. he is so very stubborn and has a really strong sense of justice imo.....almost to where i'm tempted to say he's INFJ, but idk, he falls short of that categorization for me. most of people's discussion on part II revolves around ellie for obvious reasons, but god if tommy's not super interesting as well. he's just as devastated and equally traumatized by what ends up happening to joel. his trauma from all of that initially manifests in the same desire for cold-blooded revenge just like ellie...and when he can't continue in seattle anymore, after taking a break from everything and losing hope even further, he just ends up manifesting his agony over what happened to joel as some rather tactless-seeming pleas for ellie to continue doing what he can't. and it *is* manipulation, he just doesn't realize what he's doing to her psyche at that point. he's hurting like hell, too. abby screws majorly with all of their lives and uprooted everything, and he feels unable to settle down in much the same way ellie does. he gets in her head when she's shown to be living a happy life now, but honestly? i think she would have eventually snapped and left the farm anyway, even without his input; it would've just taken a lot longer. tommy's a great character. i have lots of thoughts abt him... he's really good in the first and widens the scope of the universe by a Lot, to have someone so close to joel be so clearly steered along by his emotions & seek out a better life with the fireflies, only to be drawn toward a peaceful life in the countryside with a woman he admires. he's a very important catalyst for the end of part II and just rocks in that game in general, honestly. badass man. i'd love to see what ends up happening to him. maybe he and ellie could find solace in each other moving forward and start relying on each other more as they try to grieve joel & their partners they lost because of that grief? that would be great. tommy & ellie epic divorce squad.
