Broke: Higgs is chaotic evil Woke: Higgs is chaotic neutral Bespoke: Higgs is chaotic good If you actually pay attention, read his journals *and* the novelization of the game, it’s made explicitly clear that Higgs ALWAYS believes he’s doing the right thing and sees himself as acting towards universal good and a righteous cause. It’s canon that he suffered from delusions Amelie forced into his mind and was “made to believe” a false narrative that he was a righteous, heroic mastermind destined to bring extinction as a mercy to mankind and allow new life to rise up after humanity is gone. It shattered him when that delusion fell away and he realized “it was all make-believe,” after which he was stranded on the Beach “with nothing to do but continue to confess his endless sins.” His motivations are pure, but he’s been manipulated by much more powerful forces into doing awful things, after being exploited as a child soldier in a terrorist effort to stop Bridges from manufacturing BBs no less. Higgs is an abuse victim with no proper socialization in his childhood (his uncle kept him completely isolated and literally tried to kill him!) and thus is incredibly naive and vulnerable to being used for others’ ends. Black and white thinking makes for atrocious media literacy. Context, people.
