Living on a meta-framework level, Taira feels very Ti dom to me. Most of his internal monologue isn’t about “do I like this or not,” but about social structures themselves. When Suzuki starts dating Tani, what really shakes Taira isn’t the fact of the relationship, but the collapse of his own framework: “So the one bound by hierarchy… is me.” This isn’t an emotional Fe reaction, but Ti realizing that the evaluation system he’s been using all along is flawed. And in a very Ti way, he doesn’t rush to replace that system with a new one but he dismantles it from the inside. In my view, Taira’s anxiety and gloom come from his failure to model the social system consistently. Hierarchy has been his tool for prediction and control, and when someone like Tani appears —calm, unwavering, and indifferent to status— that model stops working. A world that once felt mappable turns ambiguous, and that unsettles Taira. Not out of jealousy or envy, but because his Ti has lost its logical foothold. His Ne shows up in how he rereads reality as possible interpretations, rather than a single truth. At first, Tani is just an outlier in the social pyramid, but gradually a reinterpretation emerges: maybe the very steadiness that makes Tani seem “strange” is a different kind of strength that can’t be placed within hierarchy. Taira doesn’t immediately revise his judgment; he lets meaning shift through observation. Even his idea that praise is better when given in someone’s absence feels very Ne-like, considering a perspective most people wouldn’t think of. Taira’s Fe is clearly inferior and defensive, not a driving force. He’s very aware of social reactions, but that awareness makes him guarded, stiff, and awkward when expressing goodwill. Lines like “I’m not a good person” aren’t simple low self-esteem; they’re Ti’s attempt to distance itself from social labels that feel imprecise or manipulative. His Fe is present, but it manifests as unease and observation, not as a desire to merge with others or steer their emotions. He’s a fascinating character despite only appearing in a single episode so far. I really hope we get to see more of his development moving forward.
