I think Shugen is too forceful and insistent on his idea of righteousness for him to be sx blind. He feels so strongly about "justice" and "evil" as concepts that it causes him to shed tears and (quite literally) blinds him. sx1s have idealistic, almost fantastical ideas of righteousness that they impose on the world, they tend to be vigilantes and advocate for what they truly believe is correct. However, they are the most aggressive subtype of E1, and anything that opposes their idea of "good" must be removed.
Biografie
Shugen is very dignified and diligent in his duties as an Asaemon. He cares greatly for his Yamada clansmen, having spent his years with them and being taught what they know. He greatly expressed his concern for their safety on the island and vowed to bring them back home no matter what the means were. Furthermore, Shugen has a tendency to become emotional whenever he thinks about his comrades. He's one of the only Yamada clan members who doesn't look down on women in the clan and vouches for their qualifications as executioners. He greatly despises all criminals and truly believes that they are evil no matter who they are.
