(1/2) I was on board with him being an ESFP like the original movies (though I disagree with that), but I honestly feel like he falls more into an ENFJ in the show. It's possible he was an ENFJ, just with a hot temper, in the movies (need to go back and watch to make sure lol), but there are some good arguments that show Fi-Te. However, Daniel exhibits a LOT of Fe in the show, and stronger Ni (despite some weak moments with it LOL). Daniel is very focused on and aware of the feelings of everyone around him. While he is relatively in tune with his own feelings, he doesn't always prioritize them over the feelings of others. Despite his strong feelings about Cobra Kai and Kreese, and his desire for it to be gone, he doesn't put it above his family. In fact, when he does begin to fight CK, he does so for the good of EVERYONE else around him rather than himself. For example, rather than wanting Kreese taken down because of his past trauma only, Daniel only begins to TRULY combat his cobra Kai when he sees how much danger it's putting young teenagers in, and how much conflict it's starting. Remember, after Amanda talked some sense into him, Daniel backed down from targeting the dojo. It was only after members of said dojo were coming directly for someone in his family (Samantha) and his own students that he started to get back in the fight. If he had Fi, he likely would have been more persistent on taking them down even after Amanda had spoken to him. Additionally, we see that even when Daniel is fired up and is in the heat of the moment with an enemy, ready to confront or fight them, he immediately is willing to back down once he sees one of his students or family members, instead shifting his focus on them and THEIR needs, rather than his personal feelings and desires in that moment. A good example of this is in season 6, (SPOILERS AHEAD LOL) when he had just escaped Kreese's goons and returned to the tournament. He was VERY shaken up and angry that Kreese would go so far as to do that, and so when he sees him inside, he doesn't hesitate to stand his ground and call him out. However, the MOMENT he sees Sam, he lets all of those feelings in the moment go, and instead shifts his focus on to how she's feeling, how she did in the tournament, and how sorry he was that he wasn't there. He didn't try to make an excuse, but rather knew that it was important for him to be there, not only for Sam, but also for his students. Daniel would much rather be the sensei and support that his daughter, students, and even Johnny needs (Johnny said so himself), than to have a satisfying moment putting Kreese in his place. There's more examples of Fe, so I will add them later as I see them more in the show. I also see Ni, but not necessarily very healthy Ni. Daniel definitely focuses more on the big picture than the past, despite his references to Mr. Miyagi. I would argue that Daniel's long term goal of wanting Cobra Kai (more specifically Kreese and Silver) shut down shows his Ni, seeing that he focuses a little too much on the big picture of that movement rather than being practical all of the time. I also see the motivation backing his Ni being more Fe focused than Fi focused, as he truly has the best interests for students and his community, especially those who are vulnerable to Kreese, at his heart, and isn't just doing it purely because of his own values. While his values and morals certainly do play a role, they are not the focus in this case; the focus is protecting the people around him, especially impressionable teenagers, from men who he knows first hand are purely evil and manipulative. This is very more Fe-Ni motivated I would argue. Se is very easy to spot as well. While it's VERY strong and could be mistaken for his dominant function, I think that it's just slightly behind or at LEAST equal to his Fe. I honestly feel like he's too unaware of his environment, even in the moves (hot take but I'll get to that later lol), to be Se dominant. Daniel is very impulsive, and craves new experiences/changes in his routine. We see this firsthand as he is eager to step away from his routine life in the business world and step back into something he loved dearly. He also enjoys have a very physically enhanced dojo/garden to practice in, and we see him go to places like the woods to meditate and focus. At the same time, in season 6, (spoilers ahead lol) we see Daniel being very unaware of his surroundings and environment, which ultimately leads to him being kidnapped by thugs hired by Kreese. I could also argue that this was Ni-Se coming into play, with Daniel being very focused on his vision of finding out more on Mr. Miyagi, and initially using his Se decently, but ultimately not being connected enough with it to be aware and prevent his kidnapping. (CONTINUED IN REPLIES LOL)

Biografie

34 years after his victory against Johnny Lawrence, Daniel's (professional!) life couldn't be better, but the return of his hated rival and the dojo that made him threaten to upset Daniel's balanced life. Despite feeling complete with his family and his business, Daniel still kept his eyes on the local karate scene; as a former champion and important businessman, LaRusso joined his city's Olympic committee, which oversees the All Valley Karate Tournament, and Daniel unsuccessfully attempted to use his influence to prevent the resurrected Cobra Kai from competing. #RalphMacchio
