He really works better as an ENTP (he literally has Batman as his shadow function). ENTPs can shift into their NTJ “shadow” under pressure, suddenly becoming cold, calculating, and authoritarian. Nightwing as an ENTP is a great leader, charismatic and strategic, and it works perfectly with him being sarcastic, quick-tempered, and a trickster. I believe he should be an ENTP with Fe almost as developed as his Ne and Ti. It’s been stated many times that he becomes like Batman under stress and that he strongly resembles him (logical, being NT). It’s also mentioned that he tends to resemble Superman in aspects of hope and persona and since Superman is an ISFJ, he shares the same functions as an ENTP. He’s also often compared to the Joker, which I like, as they share the same functions except he’s neither evil nor (that) crazy. It’s no coincidence that in many adaptations he is portrayed as an ENTP such as in numerous comic runs, Young Justice, the Arkham universe, The Batman animated series (2004), the DCAMU, or the Harley Quinn show. As a leader, he isn’t “strict” like Bruce but rather a more chaotic one. In his duo with Batman, he’s clearly not the obedient little soldier he tends to adjust the plan on the fly, crack jokes during fights, or simply improvise his own moves. His clashes with Batman perfectly illustrate an ENTP crash-out vs. an INTJ: he wants more freedom, his own path, and is frustrated by Batman’s methods and moral code. ENTPs question rules even those set by their mentors which explains why he leaves Batman to become his own hero. Everybody has an opinion about Grayson: they either love him (like the Bat-Family, the Titans, or the Justice League) or hate him (like the villains). I think this is also very ENTP-like, showing strong Ti–Fe dynamics. Nightwing excels at bringing together very different personalities into the same team, leading with a highly Ne–Ti style.
