"¿Qué tipo de personalidad es Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy? Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy es un tipo de personalidad ISTP en mbti, 3w4 - - en enneagram, en Big 5, LIE en Socionics."

I saw Carolyn in a different light after reading „The Kennedy Heirs" by Taraborelli and "America's Reluctant Prince" by Gillon than I had imagined from the glamorous pictures in the press. To the world, she became known for her marriage to JFK Jr. and her iconic and timeless style which still looks modern today - in real life she was a complex and contradictory person. She was on the one side radiant, ambitious, independent, self-sufficient, warm, generous, helpful, and affectionate to her friends, but also stubborn, impulsive, unpredictable, and unstable and she didn‘t hesitate to fight back whenever she felt attacked (pent-up anger). I'd like to mention a few things from the books which help to type her: During her campus days, Carolyn had an active social life and a knack for getting to know important people (she dated fashion heir Alessandro Benetton and even confessed to a friend that her dream man was JFK Jr. at one point). As it later turned out and as we know today Carolyn couldn‘t handle the pressures of public life. „She relished the glamor and fame that came with being the wife of an American prince, but she claimed not to have anticipated the intensive media scrutiny.“ Sadly, during her marriage to JFK Jr. Carolyn became increasingly withdrawn, and reclusive, rarely left the shared apartment in Tribeca, and started to spiral out of control emotionally. „She did not want to interact with the photographers who hounded her, but she studied nearly every picture of herself she could find and became increasingly self-conscious about her appearance. Her hair kept getting lighter and her body thinner“. „Many close friends suspected that she had begun self-medicating, growing especially fond of cocaine. One friend described being on Martha’s Vineyard when Carolyn and John started having a loud, angry fight. Carolyn stormed out and did not return until the following morning, “all coked out.” „Carolyn complained that John let people take advantage of him, that he was too passive and refused to confront people—such as Michael Berman—who she felt were not acting in his best interest. His friends soon became the object of her suspicion and scorn. As Carolyn grew increasingly paranoid and reclusive, she started reducing her and John’s exposure to outsiders. She cut down on the number of visitors, even barring some from visiting the Cape. „On one occasion, she screamed Michael Berman that he had no idea how difficult life was with John. “He’s irresponsible! He doesn’t give a **** about me. He doesn’t give a **** about anybody but himself!” she shouted into the phone. She shared embarrassingly private details of their sex life before turning her ire on Michael. “All of you enable this,” she snarled. “Why don’t you tell him to get home? You just want to be around him. You don’t care about his magazine“. As you read the books, it becomes clear that the press isn't the only driver of trouble in her marriage but that she and JFK Jr. were very, very different which was indicated by different hobbies, timings, and values. John wanted to start a family, and valued stability, and emotional loyalty. Carolyn appreciated freedom, independence and could act unpredictably. Neither preference is better or worse than the other, but both do not blend well. “Carolyn looks at marriage like a man does, that it’s not necessarily a lifetime thing, because of the way her mother got burned. It’s made her cynical about marriage. Carolyn’s father left her mother with three little kids.” (JFK Jr.). In 1999, her marriage to Kennedy was as Carolyn put it herself "on probation". I don’t want to romance them and believe today that the fairytale wedding has little to do with reality. If it hadn't been for the premature and pointless death, both would have found happiness and success but gone separate ways.
