ISTP: Introversion and dominant Ti: logic above emotions. Izumi clearly behaves like an introvert: he is withdrawn and secretive outside combat. He doesn’t seek attention or company, acting independently and relying on his own plan. The dominant ISTP function, introverted thinking (Ti), appears in Izumi’s cold, rational decision-making. He acts logically and cold-bloodedly, ignoring emotions and morality. A vivid example: his calculated strategy to return to the game. Izumi finds a mini Gantz ball at home demanding new participants, and without hesitation decides to arrange a massacre to recruit people (and himself) through death. For instance, in the mission to eliminate Tai Kojima, Izumi coldly wounds a girl, explaining that otherwise everyone will die (he sees the killing of an innocent as a rationally necessary evil). His dominant Ti is also visible in combat: Izumi adapts quickly and calculates the flow of battle on the go. While fighting the Shorty alien in class, he quickly realized he couldn’t win unarmed and used a desk as a shield. Strong Se: craving action, risk and sensation. Izumi’s behavior screams strong Se. Shion is a man of action, seeking direct sensory experience, thrill, and physical challenges. A normal, safe life bores him to death: as a gifted student and athlete, he never felt challenged by school or sports, easily surpassing peers, which led to intense existential boredom. As a result, he developed a painful hunger for trials – "This is the only place where I truly live". His impulsive drive to act first is also a mark of Se: he doesn’t wait or over-plan, he immediately throws himself into the heat. Weak Ni: no long-term vision or ideals. In contrast with his strong Se, it's clear Izumi's introverted intuition (Ni) is poorly developed. He shows almost no long-term strategic vision or internal ideology, unlike intuitives like INTJ. His goals are concrete and down-to-earth: return to the game, earn 100 points, become the strongest fighter. He doesn’t build grand plans or care about abstract questions. He may seem like a strategist, but his plans are tactical – Shion acts based on what’s currently possible, not on some larger vision. His values are hollow: normal life means nothing to him, but even in the game he chases nothing beyond pleasure and self-assertion. This lack of abstract aim points to weak intuition. Izumi is uninterested in Gantz’s secrets or moral dilemmas, only in adrenaline and points. Even the motive of "proving Japanese superiority" (mentioned in the manga) doesn’t come across as conviction but as a form of self-assertion: he slaughters hundreds of Japanese without hesitation just to return to Gantz, contradicting his supposed patriotism. This shows nihilism and lack of firm principles. Inferior Fe: issues with empathy and rare emotional surges. Izumi’s Fe is practically absent in daily behavior: he’s insensitive to others’ suffering and indifferent to good and evil. Emotional reasoning doesn’t register with him. He’s close to no one, even Reika is just part of his imitation of a normal life. Moreover, Shion often expresses contempt for others’ emotions and weaknesses. He openly laughs at the team when they want to spend their points reviving dead comrades: Izumi convinces them it’s better to get new weapons than bring back "weaklings". Let’s set aside the scene where, at a critical moment, the vampire leader strikes, and Reika throws herself in front of him, clearly knowing he would die otherwise. Izumi instinctively takes the blow, shielding Reika. He saves her life at the cost of his own. This autopilot sacrifice even shocks Shion himself: the manga shows he doesn’t fully understand why he did it. 8w7: His personality shows nearly all core traits of type 8: a drive for control and power, independence, rejection of outside authority and rules, fear of vulnerability, direct confrontation and love for challenge, plus expressive anger and pressure. In Shion these traits are highly pronounced. The 7 wing adds even more expression, impulsiveness, and craving for adventure. Compared to the more restrained and pragmatic 8w9, 8w7 are more temperamental, bold, and thrill-seeking. They’re also more hot-headed and physically aggressive, and often try to escape painful reality into a fantasy of pleasure.
