Denethor is LSE. His entire downfall in Return of the King is a depiction of Fi suggestive. LSEs rely on Fi for moral support, goodwill and stability in relationships. Denethor lost a big chunk of that when Boromir died, and then Faramir's apparent death just drove him past the point of no return. For Si vs Ni, it's pretty easy to figure out that Denethor is a Si-valuing individual. LSEs place great value on comfort and tangibility, cleanliness and order in their living space. They are the proverbial "My house is my castle". Denethor's refusal to acknowledge Aragorn's claim to the throne of Gondor is one such example of this, an unhealthy example. Another example is the dining scene where he displays his preference for sensory aesthetics; song and food; while he sends young men to die in battle. These are all examples of Si-valuation. Furthermore, the book goes into greater detail over how Denethor's broken morale was based on how he perceived the hopelessness in resisting the might of Sauron's armies; which is an indication of Ni-PoLR. LSE believes in the value of hard work and productivity as opposed to perceiving trends across time, Denethor was led to believe that no matter how much work he would have to put in the fight against Sauron, the cause was ultimately futile; it's a clear depiction of how vulnerable he was at Ni. He had a very poor perception of Gondor's survival across time. Self-Preservation 3 is an obvious Enneagram type for him. He ticks all the boxes for counter-Vanity; his need to maintain his rule as the Steward of Gondor is an expression of his need for material security in his status and position of power, showing just how much he is identified with his role while appearing as a responsible and upstanding individual. It was this literal sense of Vanity that Sauron preyed upon by revealing Aragorn to Denethor; showing him that Aragorn reclaiming the throne kicked up the E3's hypervigilant insecurities when it comes to giving up their power.
