After rereading the webcomic, I've gained some new insights into Amai Mask's character. He is probably a SX6. “The sexual E6 lives a typical ambivalence regarding contact and withdrawal, the relationship with oneself and with the world. He has a desire for fusion but also fears it. It therefore leaves in the unconscious the desire for intimacy so as not to face the fear of annihilation and the anguish of loneliness. Beauty shows confidence, nonchalance, and solidity, and also has this connotation of power and hiding the desire to be protected, to placate their fear. Through denying their fear, they become the strong one, the beautiful one, stemming from their own desire and valuing of strength. ” That is how Amai exactly behaves When he was still human, Amai was rejected and overlooked by the world due to his ugly appearance. This laid a solid foundation for the fear and doubt characteristic of his E6 personality. For Amai, this fear was concrete from the very beginning: the fear of not being accepted or loved because of his ugly looks. He yearned for connection and validation from others, but reality offered him only rejection and hurt. This trauma filled his heart with insecurity. In the face of this fear, he did not retreat but instead chose to be counter-phobic.He attempted to compensate for his inferiority and win recognition through the powerful act of becoming a hero, though masked .By performing heroic deeds—powerful, socially approved actions,he hoped to make the world to acknowledge his value and ward off the fear of abandonment. At this stage, he had already established the classic sx6 ambivalence: an intense craving for fusion (to be loved, to be seen as one of the group) coexisting with an intense dread of fusion (fearing that exposure of his true self would lead to being hurt again). After obtaining the handsome appearance, Amai did not resolve his inner fear but rather concealed it, entering a phase of fully implementing the sx6 strategy. The two sx6 strategies—"Strength" and "Beauty"—merged into one within him. His handsome exterior itself became a form of power. His accidentally acquired beauty even internally justify the very "appearance-determines-worth" rule that had once trapped him in misery. Unable to change this rule, he chose to compromise, trading on it for his right to exist. He became an idol and the public face, the pillar of the Hero Association, using beauty as his armor to project an image of confidence, toughness, authority, and solidity. Yet, internally, he was filled with anxiety, confusion, and self-criticism. Although he deeply loved his fans, he didn't enjoy his idol career very well. This is illustrated in season1 's mini-drama: he imposed perfectionistic and harsh demands on himself, locked himself in toilet alone to vent his anxiety and nervousness, while berating his own incompetence. In the manga, he sternly states "A weak version of myself is not permitted" .Here, we see his rejection of his own vulnerable and sensitive side. He felt deeply uneasy and fearful about his monstrous nature, unwilling to accept this identity as a monster, yet also unable to firmly define himself as human. He wavered, pinning his hopes on "being regarded as human by the outside world",which explains why he driven to appear perfect. Amai was extremely harsh and critical, to both of himself and other heroes. This is a manifestation of the E6 mechanism of projection. He project his inner self-rejection and doubt outward, perceiving others as weak, incompetent, and unqualified. Similarly, his can only freeze in fear upon encountering ugly monsters is a projection of his internal denial onto the external world, for he sees his own rejected monstrous self reflected in them. He sought an absolutely powerful authority/protector. He idolized Saitama as the "supreme hero," yet denied the value of his own efforts toward that ideal. He hoped Saitama could become a god-like existence, illuminating the world. One interpretation I have read before suggests this reflects Amai's subconscious desire for protection:a hope that in such a figure of unwavering integrity and light, even someone as distorted and lost as himself could still be saved. In the webcomic, while lying in the ruins, adrifting in his thoughts, he thought, "Tomorrow... will I still be seen as human too?" Yet, when Saitama affirmed and encouraged him, he just told Saitama to kill him. Although he was shaking just now he said "look at me closely, there's no saving me now" He craved Saitama's approval, but he was already despairing of his situation and fears tarnishing that validation. Therefore, he consciously adopted an aggressive stance to maintain distance. Becoming emotionally impenetrable to resist one's own feelings is also typical sx6 behavior. I haven't read the English-translated version of OPM manga or webcomic, so the character lines I quote might differ from the common English translations.
