[1/3] SOCIAL 6 CHIDI TRUTHERS RISE! I’ve never seen that many arguments on this man’s profile about ennea-types, probably because he is the worlds most obvious 6, but he’s definitely a social 6. I will in particular be building off of episode 9 of season 4 since that is the “Chidi regains his memories" episode. And I think narratively they REALLY lay out social 6 motivation in that one so if you’re not convinced by this, you can always rewatch that episode! 《CHIDI CHARACTER DEEP DIVE》 One of the first memories we see of Chidi is when he is 8 years old. He’s lying in his bed frightened by his parents arguing. Chidi is scared his parents might get a divorce so he comes to a solution; he will put together a presentation convincing his parents. The presentation is successful and we switch to a scene of Chidi explaining to his friend what this meant to him: •"But more importantly, I proved once and for all that you can always find the answer." “The answer to what?” •“The answer to anything! Every problem has an answer. If you just read enough books and think hard enough, you can figure out the answer to anything!” Which becomes the thing Chidi lives by the rest of his life. As long as you just know enough stuff, you won’t have to be scared or plagued by uncertainty, because eventually you’ll find a solution to everything. We switch to a scene of Chidi arguing with his partner about their relationship. She wants to break up with him and the conversation goes as followed: “It's just... Why are we together?” •“Because it makes sense. I mean, you like Kant, I like Kant.” “We are not a book club.” •“Well, we are not, not a book club... Okay. If there's a problem with our relationship there is an answer that will solve it. So let's go to the library!” “You wanna use philosophy? How about David Hume? "Reason is an ought only to be a slave to the passions." You know? Emotions, desires, feelings. Do you even have those?” •“Of course I do, I have strong feelings for you and what we have. And right now, I will show you... How Kant refuted most of Humes central theses.” This shows Chidi’s removedness from his own emotional state. If there’s a problem, rationalise it. This is confirmed by the next scene: “You can't answer every question every philosopher ever has asked. So, what in these pages do you care about?” •“All of it. Equally.” “The greatest works of moral philosophy are emotional. There is a great mind at work here but where is the heart?” •”I understand. I do. So I'm going to go home and write a short paper for you, arguing why I should continue working on this longer paper.” Chidi shows a cluelessness to any part of his life that has to do with personal preference since that can’t be reasoned with. We this illustrated in the next scene in which Chidi’s ideal home life in the good place is for his own fridge to pick his meal and he asks one of the things he desires most; a soulmate. The reason why Chidi wants this is because love is about feelings and you can never know that what you’re feeling is correct because the one thing about feelings is that are regardless there and there is no right or wrong. Soulmates are the answer therefore to a logically version of companionship. If all an knowing system can assign him something, he never has to worry about if what he’s doing is right or not. Then, we move onto the next scene in which Chidi talks to Jason about marrying Janet and how he knew he wanted to marry her: •“How can you just make a decision this big?” “..You can look at a problem from every angle and drive yourself crazy but sometimes you just gotta huck a molotov cocktail at a drone and see what happens! If you're always frozen in fear and thinking too long about what to do, you'll miss your opportunity.” •”I just don't think I will ever be the kind of person who just... acts. I mean, i can't just open a door and walk through it without knowing whats on the other side.” Chidi shows here his deeper motivation; fear. The next scene plays out similarly but the one scene that eventually follows is interesting. Eleanor kisses Chidi despite not being soulmates. Chidi is not into his current soulmate but he refuses to let go of their bond. The conversation goes as followed: •”I know she and I are in a rough patch but we just have to find the answer of how to get out of it, like my parents!” “Yeah I don't think that story was as cute as you think it is man. I mean, I'm sure you were cute but that moment? Woof! That's too much to put on an 8 year old. I kinda wish cute little Chidi just got to be a kid rather than a miniature professor trying to figure out the answer to the worlds problems.”
