Fe doms know how to use it. They don’t squirm and struggle with reading the room and harmonizing with others to get what they want. The argument of Carver as ESFJ I assume comes from his work as a police officer, where Fe-doms may have to suppress their Fe. In Carver’s case, his Fe has many chances to show, and it is always stunted or underdeveloped because it is clashing with his Se. With his attempt at preventing Randy from going into a group home, you can see a great example of this. He wants results now, and is frustrated that the system is blocking him from doing the right thing. Fe-Si would build coalitions and relationships to get Randy something other than the group home. He can’t make it happen, argues immediately with anyone who could help him, and all his efforts are pushes with emotion but without strategy. His tantrum in the car is a classic ESTP angry at themselves for trying to do “the right thing for once” and failing 100%. Even when he shows up to corners to confront everyone by name, insults them, and shows his dominance and charm - this is not an Fe dom move. This is full Se-Fe (the awkward charm of ESTPs while they insult and manipulate you for their own gain). Carver has an arc, and this brings him into someone who cares for his community. As the others have said and I agree with - his primary arc in the show is learning how to use his very suppressed Fe (which is external care and social harmony). Again, anyone’s dominant function shows always no matter what. If he was an Fe-dom, we would see it in every action of his. Not 24/7 suppressed.
Biographie
Although brighter and more perceptive than Herc, Carver starts the series with a similar mentality to his partner, showing almost identical levels of immaturity, corruption, and being just as willing to engage in police brutality. Due to the influences of Daniels, and more importantly, Bunny Colvin, Carver begins to change his outlook and grow into a more effective and responsible policeman. As time goes on Carver proves himself a competent commander with a strong sense of ethics. He is promoted to lieutenant in the finale, showing a strong resemblance to his early mentor, Daniels.
