What I would say sets Carver apart among the detail is his capacity for brutal self-interest. He looks out for number one, takes what he can get, and screws over whoever he needs to in order to get it. I don't see 3-style image attention. He's not remotely manicured or buttoned-up. He'll rank check others with his "stripes" in little power struggles, but he's not preoccupied with wearing them. He defaults to yelling at and intimidating those who challenge him (more so even than the other cops). He even expresses more rage than Mr. crack-skulls Herc. To me, lust > vanity is pretty clear. AND, the character development called Fe development by some, I call growth in the direction of 2 on the enneagram!
Biography
Although brighter and more perceptive than Herc, Carver starts the series with a similar mentality to his partner, showing almost identical levels of immaturity, corruption, and being just as willing to engage in police brutality. Due to the influences of Daniels, and more importantly, Bunny Colvin, Carver begins to change his outlook and grow into a more effective and responsible policeman. As time goes on Carver proves himself a competent commander with a strong sense of ethics. He is promoted to lieutenant in the finale, showing a strong resemblance to his early mentor, Daniels.
