I see a lot of interesting parallels between his spirituality and Kierkegaard's philosophy, so it makes sense that he and Kierkegaard share the same functions. It's really sad how quickly his teachings were bastardized by his followers into the detestable sophistries we know and "love" (again, similar to Kierkegaard).
Biographie
Saint Ignatius of Loyola/Ignacio de Loyola (1491-1556) was a Spanish Basque Catholic Priest and theologian who co-founded the Catholic religious order, the Society of Jesus, nicknamed the Jesuits, becoming its first Superior General in 1541. He is known for composing the Spiritual Exercises, a set of meditations, prayers, and mental exercises, which form the basis of Jesuit spirituality to this day.
