You can see from the beginning scene where Maria enters ARK, she isn't naturally an outgoing or loud child. If anything, when interacting with the commander, she seems shy. However, Maria's empathy shines through when she meets Shadow in the test tube. She isn't afraid of him like the others and immediately understands that he is a kind being deserving of love and respect like anyone else. The scenes where Shadow and Maria play together are so touching because I believe they were both isolated lonely children with unique personalities, but also reluctant to open up to their harsh adult surrounding. By finding each other, they were able to find a kindred and bond, finally behaving like playful kids as they should. The reason I believe Maria is INFJ is because she is able to quickly adapt to and understand Shadow, despite being completely different- she uses metaphorical language about the stars to speak to him deeply. They seem to communicate on a Ni level, however Maria's deep adaptability to others makes her appear as a Fe user. Anyways, I think some people may type her as an extrovert in the films because they portray her more playfully, but that's likely because she isn't sick in this version and has more energy. I still think she is INFJ, which is why Shadow feels so deeply connected to her.
