Spock set the template for what a Vulcan is, and Tuvok adheres to it perfectly. Tuvok seems even more obviously and exaggeratedly ISTJ than Spock. While Spock was often foiled by his inability to see outside the confines of his logic (Te), Tuvok struggles even more with anything at variance with Starfleet protocols (Si). What's particularly interesting about Tuvok is that his inferior Ne even causes him problems. He'll occasionally get some crazy idea and just run off half-cocked on his own and do something wild, like when he stole the prototype in "Prime Factors" or when he mind-melded with a killer in "Meld". Several times Janeway has to reprimand him and say, "Never do 'X' without telling me again."
Biographie
Tuvok is an old friend of Janeway's who was assigned to spy on the Maquis. He takes up the positions of Tactical Officer and Security Officer in the consolidated crew. The first Vulcan to be played by an African-American actor. (A desert planet would likely produce skin tones rich in melanin.) The character has a prominent role in the Fan Film series Star Trek: Renegades, which was produced by the actor.
