The truth is, Dean is such a fool, that if Rory doesn't say "I love you" to him, he breaks up with her and is disgusted. He was also a badass with Lindsay, cheated on her with Rory (who is also guilty, but whether or not he married her it wasn't Rory) she couldn't go out with friends he was all freaked out, victimized himself if Rory had to study or couldn't be with him any day he wanted to. He wasn't and never was the right man for Rory, she deserved a better person, someone who wouldn't question her studies, and who would treat her well.
