He wasn't very charming akin E3. Recall his first appearance, namely the talk with Edmund and Godwin. He reminded Godwin of his father's failures, openly criticised the decisions of the monarchy, claimed that his strategy was superior to King Aethelred's, denounced Edmund as a “boy prince”, and stated his disregard for the “foreigner” queen Emma. An E3 wouldn't do this. Overall, his conduct resembles E6w5 more. Skeptical, resourceful, careful. I suppose Canute killed him because he was too smart.
