He wasn't very charming akin E3. Recall his first appearance, namely the talk with Edmund and Godwin. He reminded Godwin of his father's failures, openly criticised the decisions of the monarchy, claimed that his strategy was superior to King Aethelred's, denounced Edmund as a “boy prince”, and stated his disregard for the “foreigner” queen Emma. An E3 wouldn't do this. Overall, his conduct resembles E6w5 more. Skeptical, resourceful, careful. I suppose Canute killed him because he was too smart. As a ruler you want loyalty above all else, and intelligent skeptics are quite perilous as subjects. His claim to the english monarchy was too much of a threat for Canute’s future reign given Mercia’s long & proud history.
背景
Ealdorman of Mercia which has historically been an independent Kingdom in England. He opposed Queen Emma’s legitimacy and was highly critical of the king and his son Edmund. He ultimately allied himself with King Canute in hopes of pragmatic advancement but was dramatically killed by him for treason.
