I remember reading “Norwegian Wood” for the first time and being shocked by how much I related to Naoko. Obviously, typing her is not easy since she is described in quite a two-dimensional way, but if I were to imagine how other’s describe me and interactions with me, it would be very similar to how Watanabe described Naoko. The searching for words (Ni is related to figurative thinking, hence the struggle with verbalizing one’s thoughts), the introversion, her hypothetical monologue about the well in the very beginning of the book - all of this immediately made me think “She’s so Ni”
