"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" The Hero of Time is self-preservation 4 FVEL. "Although I accepted life as a hero, I could not convey the lessons of that life to those who came after. At last, I have eased my regrets."-Hero's Shade (AKA The Hero of Time) to his descendant, the Hero of Twilight. Most incarnations of Link in many of the Zelda games are simply E9, a silent action-oriented noble hero that does what he is told and is destined as a knight, hero, and protector of Hyrule. We could type the character this since there isn't a lot of substance to cover and move on with our lives. However, there's one Link in particular that has interconnecting lore with another Link, with a more crestfallen and doomed narrative throughout all his journeys. Official Zelda Lore Time: The Hero of Time canonically shows screen time in 3 major Zelda titles, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and in Twilight Princess as the Hero's Shade (canonically confirmed in Hyrule Historia). The lore describes this Link as more image-oriented, hardened, and long-suffered. A tragic old hero that conserved his suffering as a spirit so he can establish his worth in passing to the newer Link through his mastered skills of swordsmanship. Through OoT, he is an orphaned child soldier that was ostracized growing up in the Kokiri Forest due to not being a Kokiri, but a Hylian. With Navi, he was able to start his quest to save Hyrule and went to slumber for seven years in order to prepare for the power of the Master Sword. After the final fight with Ganondorf, Princess Zelda wanted to use her powers to send Link back to his own proper age in order to regain the years of childhood he had sacrificed to save Hyrule. Because of this though, he vanishes from this branch of history and his legacy is erased from everyone's memories. The Hero of Time suffered from this deeply, and looked for his partner Navi but never ended up finding her. He stumbles into a parallel universe called Termina and saves this world from the moon, and despite his efforts of heroism, he still lamented for the rest of his life after no one had recognized how much he endured for everyone without any recognition. After his death, he quite literally could not go to the afterlife because of his lingering regrets. He felt a sense of duty to pass on his knowledge to the younger generations to conserve his suffering. In Ensayos, "Naranjo describes it as someone who wishes to take care of themselves because they subconsciously believe that nobody will take care of them, letting themselves sink deeper in this frustration." This Link is narratively written to be a miserable, dauntless, helpful, admirable hero with a self demand that pushes him even after death to mark his legacy onto the world. He may be a blank slate silent protagonist like the rest of the Links but there is always an earnest, noble soldier design that is consistent with all incarnations (fits the idea of FVEL in psychosophy). This Link in particular, really fits the mold for a heart type though as most of his struggles are about not having the love returned for all the hard work he has achieved. E4 core is about feelings of shame and pessimistic attitudes regarding themselves and life, with SP4 having a masochistic attitude through shouldering feelings of pain and enduring burdens to be loved. The Hero of Time lived in shame and regret, not feeling worthy enough as a person despite all he has done due to the lack of love received. He finally rests in peace after teaching all of his skills to the Link in Twilight Princess and is able to feel content with himself.
