(1/2) The more info we are fed about Billy Butcher, the more clearly it seems that he is actually SO8, not SP8, and a great example of what an SLE SO8 would look like. His entire life is one big SO8 arc - one group project after another: clashing with his father to protect his little brother, joining the spec ops, joining the Boys, hunting down Homelander for his wife, reforming the Boys, hunting down Homelander to protect Ryan for his wife, etc. His youth especially, namely standing up to his father for Lenny, mirrors this Naranjo quote perfectly: -> "It's like a child who became violent defending his mother against his father. His violence arose from solidarity. He has resonated a lot with the phrase of ―thundering in the face of injustice" Moreover, he is continuously accused throughout the show of pretenses towards solidarity in order to justify his own excess and lustful violence. Isn't this exactly the SO8 neurosis? For comparison to SP8 sake, look at how Soldier Boy treats his team relative to Butcher - for the sake of his own power and triumph, he is utterly indiscriminate and abusive towards them, whereas Butcher, while still pretty selfish and deceitful, is much more loyal and attentive to them, and is willing to sacrifice himself for his loved ones several times throughout the show without a care for his own safety or wellbeing. Which SP8, the type focusing the excess of lust towards survival and gratification, is going to be so selfless when push comes to shove, at least when not mature and aware of their own neurosis? This should already be enough to prove my point largely, but let's go by some quotes from a Naranjo excerpt on SO8s in therapy:
