An ISTP's TiNi loop is exactly what's going on here -- he wants to go deeper and deeper, not for a strategic purpose (NiTe), but simply to discover the truth about the "center of the maze"; that is, he wants to find a deeper TiNi insight about an Se construct (Westworld). He does this as a compulsive need, without any real Te incentive. Perhaps William as a younger man was INFJ, but the Man in Black is most certainly ISTP. Where do you see Inf Se in his direct, blunt, drastic behavior? Also take his tritype 854 into account; the 4 lends a need for philosophical depth in one's personal goals.
