An ISTP's TiNi loop is exactly what's going on here -- he wants to go deeper and deeper, not for a strategic purpose (NiTe), but simply to discover the truth about the "center of the maze"; that is, he wants to find a deeper TiNi insight about an Se construct (Westworld). He does this as a compulsive need, without any real Te incentive. Perhaps William as a younger man was INFJ, but the Man in Black is most certainly ISTP.
