He only grants wishes he deems not dangerous, or not implying a possible threat to him and the kingdom he managed to build, making him a bit paranoid. He manages to stay cool and calm, charming audiencies, making them believe that if they give their wishes to him, they will be safe, until he loses it and becomes crazy.
