In December of 2023, fellow YouTuber Hbomberguy's exposé on rife plagiarism present on the platform made largely evidenced allegations of unoriginality and research theft on Somerton's part, embroiling him in a large controversy and resulting in multiple confirmations from essayists and journalists that their work had been copied, often verbatim, by Somerton and his team.
