ʿAmr ibn Hishām al-Makhzūmī, , also known as Abu Jahl, was one of the Meccan leaders from the Quraysh known for his opposition towards the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the early Muslims in Mecca. Before Islam, he was named "Abul Hikmah", meaning the father of knowledge. He was an educated man who was known for always desiring to know the truth. He never believed in what Muhammad sees and fought against him and his religion. Because he never accepted Islam and opposed it with passion, Muslims called him " Abu Jahl", meaning the father of ignorance.
