Strategic, idealistic, ambitious, empathetic, kind, courageous, stubborn when it comes to his ideals, and an absolutely eloquent writer. I would think him to be an INFJ, however, suggestions are welcome and I would like to know what you think his type is after you read this character sketch of him. Imagine standing against one of the most powerful armies in the WORLD at the time, with less than 500 soldiers of your own and actually SUCCEEDING in pushing them back and starting the downfall of that same powerful dynasty. Imagine inspiring the common people, peasants, and workers to leave everything and give their lives for the sacred cause of their motherland. Well, that's exactly what he did, a boy of mere 16 years of age, then. Ni - Most of his battle strategies, including the Guerilla warfare techniques he adopted, fighting on terrain well known to him, choosing the battlefield, and especially that incident where he chose to chase and destroy Afzal's forces even after killing him when most others would have chosen to celebrate the victory with their troops shows Ni. Fe - He did genuinely care for his people as can be seen in the letters he wrote to his commander, explicitly stressing the need to evacuate the women and children of his kingdom before all else when the Mughal army would invade. In the 1600s when it was common for the invading armies to r*p*, and kill without thinking twice, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj passed a strict rule forbidding any of his soldiers to hurt/molest women or children of enemy territories, took care to safeguard the honor of women, in particular, punishing his soldiers severely for breaking this rule. He was praised by his enemies the Europeans and Mughals alike for this quality. Bravery was another quality he was not short of. Personally leading the surprise night attack against Shaista Khan (the uncle of the emperor) while he was in his bedroom at Lal Mahal, assassinating Afzal Khan during a meeting after months of careful planning, only highlights this fact. Also, he banned slavery in his kingdom, forbidding either men or women of his kingdom to be made into slaves, and went as far as telling the Dutch merchants that his soldiers would raid their homes and free them if they indulged in the slave trade. Ni>Fe I believe which was why he appeared ruthless to his enemies, i.e he was willing to sacrifice a lot for the greater good. He was truly a man ahead of his times, a visionary, a man of undying spirit, and one of the greatest warriors if not the greatest IMHO.
