Shiina doesn't seem to be a person who aggressively seeks love from others. However, when she knows Fujimiya is a good person, she starts to find ways to integrate into his inner circle. She cooks for him, even though this action is suitable only for a loving couple. Moreover, when he needs help, she is always there to lend a hand (Fujimiya tried to clean his messy house, and Mahiru helped him out). Although she claimed her acting with altruism, she couldn't hide that she desperately sought a close relationship with somebody. By helping Fujimiya out, as which he struggled (poorly-nutritious diet and disordered house), Mahiru can subtly and steadily attach emotional strings to him. She does this both consciously and unconsciously to get some attention from whom she desires, and that is a strong example of E2 defense mechanism.
