Why a thinker: A highly talented quantum scientist must be a thinker in order to even be one and strongly participate into the development of a portal gun. If you think he's a feeler than I guess you are judging him on he's mental illness. Thinkers can be heroic too. Chell made he's escape much easier by destroying GLaDOS. He was still under illness effect while deciding to rescue her as well as he was very gladful for what she done for him. When he was running past turrets he also knew what he was doing. The blood was very likely hallucinated as it's completely gone second later. When Chell gets hit by several bullets she just quickly recovers from them, maybe she's justvery resilient. Notice that Doug is not as athletically competent as Chell and he's medicine could had caused him to get tired. Turrets were designed to do minor harm with they're bullets, killing only when target gets hit several times. He's hallucination besides of taken medicine occured because of how shocked he was by getting hit.
