Just because he is portrayed as a funny, lively and animated guy doesn’t mean that he is se/ne dom. Yes he loves adventures and comes up with a lot of ideas for ways to spend time with his son but his core motivations comes from him wanting to relive the memories of an early stage in life where he spend all of his time with Max. Fe is a clear indication as he is a very loving and caring father and pretty much relies on his son for his happiness and decisions he makes in his life.
