Gildarts is renowned as the most powerful member of Fairy Tail, bar none. He's also the father of Cana Alberona. His magic, Crush, effectively reduces anything he touches to dust. He takes on jobs that have never been completed for tens or even hundreds of years, and thus only visits his guild a couple of years at a time for short periods of time.
