He is driven by his values and wants— Fi is not just all about morals. In all his story and in-game dialogues are very "My life, my choice." or rather "Is this right for me?" The guy is so butthurt that his family couldn't accept what he wants. He also give a lot of weight to his own state of mind and his own sense of “well-being” when making decisions. Despite the current circumstances, he has remained to be authentic and not let others' second-guess his resolve. Gus doesn't also consider much of other people's feelings, he can come out arrogant.
