I was expecting for a long comment, primarily because Kelsier is one of my favorite characters in all fiction. And secondly because he is such a deep person to analyse, since he uses masks depending on the situation. I used to be a firm believer of the ENFJ Kelsier, and I even wrote a comment defending it a couple months ago. But at the time of think about the book and the way he plans ahead and reacts to certain situations, I realized that I saw Ni when there was none, and dominant Fe when it was just Kelsier displaying a facade of false cognitive empathy. All the people in this page can agree that his Fe is evident, and he has it on his stack. So I'll proceed to explain the difference between Ni and Ne, and why he uses Ne. If you know a little about functions, you probably know that Ne is divergent in its ideas, while Ni is convergent. This means that, at the time of planning ahead, Ne will take into account a bunch of possibilities, while Ni will prefer to stand up with the most plausible. Going back to Kelsier, most people say that his final plan to defeat The Lord Ruler was Ni, because Kelsier predicted that he was going to die aganinst him and created a background plan. Even when this can pretty seem Ni, it's actually Ne, and I'm explaining why: Ni can see future possibilities, but this function will be categoryzing them according to how possible they are, until it finds the most plausible to follow. Summarizing, Ni organises possibilities. Although Ne does the same (seeing future possibilities) the difference is that Ne doesn't classify them, which means that, in a base point, all the possibilities have the same probability to occur. All of them are plausible, contradicting the subordinating nature of Ni. With Kelsier it happens the second. One of his plans is to kill the Lord Ruler with the eleventh metal, but he is open to the possibility of dying in the process, that's why he prepared another plan that worked when he was dead. The thing is that Kelsier was never sure that his first plan could fail at all. As he manifests in his final letter to Vin, he was expecting to learn the secrets about the eleventh metal to defeat the Lord Ruler, even in his final moments. Someone with Ni would be sure of the most possible outcome, but Kelsier valued his two options equally. He was okay with A or with B, without distinctions. If he seems an ENFJ is for his facade, because he wants to project an image of a savior leader. But he was always moved by his own interests, even when he was quite good at faking his true intentions
