People see how violent and rebellious he is and think 8 when he's undeniably a 3. This is the important thing to realize about the character and their type: Everything Damian has ever done and all that he continues to do--is to receive the approval of his parents. That's where his reactions, fear, and desire come from. He is driven by status and runs on it. Strongly motivated to do whatever it takes to either maintain or improve his status and with the ultimate goal of being of accepted status. And for him, that means he's accepted by Bruce and has reached the standard of being the best he can possibly be, in every conceivable way, and everyone he sees as important/worthy will look at him and point to him as the best. This is Damian's strongest desire of all. His incredible motivating factor for better and for worse, that makes him kill and makes him change and makes him a hero. It's all a matter of being good enough and measuring up to the incredible standards of being an Al Ghul and a Bat. If he were a core 8, he'd place the need for personal power before external approval. But he doesn't. Ever. He allows those in authority positions to direct orders at him, and he tries to follow their rules and meet their expectations, and even when he disagrees with them, he will angrily express himself yet still obey. That's because he understands and respects being "controlled" by people he sees as competent and worthy, and he is willing to give his all in order for those people to perceive him as competent and worthy as well. This so-called 8 quite quickly changes his entire value system to impress his father, even though his sense of "right" was the exact opposite of what he ideologically converts to, for most of his life, than what he adopted and agrees to aspire to when he goes to live with Bruce. He was raised to be a ruthless, ethnosupremacist, unforgiving, sociopathic, assassin, and a heir to a lineage of immortal supervillains **and abandons all his teachings within a year** once he chooses he cares more to win over his father than his mother and grandfather, who were the people he previously spent all his time seeking approval and praise from. And being taught since he was young the epic tales of the Bat and the worthiness and superiority of his father compared to all other men, he decides to seek approval from him now and abandon his old sense of self even though it is extremely difficult to unlearn his schooling/training/conditioning he manages to with immense effort and determination in the year he's under Bruce and Dick (new Batman/protege of his father). Before he really knows and understands his father, he craves his attention and validation because he sees him as a genetically superior being of high value and status and he's proud to be his son because of this alone. His prioritizing of status and deep need for acceptance is so great that it pretty much worked to override ten years of adamant Pro-Al Ghul propaganda and brainwashing he received. Damian is all about image, reputation, legacy, validation, success, and accomplishments. This is what defines the character very consistently within his comic portrayal.
Biografia
Damian is the biological son of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Talia al-Ghul. He was raised by the League of Assassins (and has been implied to be the subject of genetic experimentation); as such, he's a ferocious warrior and quite skilled at martial arts in spite of how young he is. Talia only revealed his existence to Batman in another bid to bring Bruce to her side. Damian is a violent, often bratty child, but he's genuinely proud to be Batman's son and wishes to play his part in his father's war against crime, although his upbringing in the League often puts him at odds with Batman's methods. His relationship with the Robins and particularly Tim is heavily conflicted, and he has more than a few entitlement issues. After his father's death, he becomes the new Robin when Dick becomes Batman full-time. Once Bruce returns and takes up the mantle of Batman once again, Damian continues to work with Dick.
