I think he's a very obvious Fi-dom that's stuck in an endless Fi-Si loop. His Ne barely, if ever, shows, due to being essentially institutionalized on a ship. In fact, he is a bit like me, who is very Ne-aware yet frequently chooses to disregard his Ne due to being overwhelmed by endless possiblities. Rather, he takes solace in his tertiary function (Si), in the predictable environments that he knows and feels comfortable around. His Fi is so strong. Even though he has feelings for that girl, he would still rather be in his own world, with himself, than to venture outside of his own bubble. Take note of how bashful he was when he realized that everyone and anyone in the world could hear his music via the recording. His music represents a very personal part of himself that reflects his internal feelings (Fi). To have the general public pry into his deepest feelings is a thought too embarassing and uncomfortable for him. Take note of his naive innocent nature. His heart is very pure, too pure in fact, that to many, he might come off as irrational. He is very obviously driven by his emotions. As typical with Fi-users, it is rather easy to offend them. This is evident when Jelly Roll (the jazz guy) disses him during the supposed piano contest, and Danny clearly was so enraged by it. This is what I mean by pure; he is authentic, unrefined even, emotions happening naturally, never controlled. Also I love that he ascribes qualities to people, like what he did by playing themes for everyone in the event hall. I often read that this is very common amongst INFPs. I initially would've also guessed ISFP, but there are certain qualities to him that don't add up, such as focusing more on the abstract and the immaterial (essence), rather than on the tangible and the existential; he is often very hard to understand because of this. His conclusion at the end about New York really attests to his lack of care for the material world, for material things, all of which are shallow to him.
