Rody is SP2 but an important part of his backstory is hidden in the artbook so it's only natural people typed him as SX9 with knowledge only from the game. Rody is a selfish person, his selfless persona is the result of his past experiences in university where his ego and self-worth was damaged and he ought to be selfless to somewhat make up for all the people he hurt. He wants to prove that he is indeed useful and worth it. This wasn't mentioned in-game but it is still important for the person he becomes so we have to consider his reasonings on why he is selfless rather than the fact that he is selfless alone. "...Thinking that being self-sacrificial would help him feel less guilty about his behavior in the past and hopefully make him be less of a burden to those around him." His love is performative and it's all to feed into that self-sacrificial persona he builds, he gives so he can feel loved and valued. In that way he can feel less guilty about his past. He thinks he can "buy" Manon's love by being selfless and performing grand gestures. He is literally offended by Vince expecting to get praise and love without giving them back. I also want to mention his relationship with food along with the SP instinct. "Food equals comfort to Rody, making food for someone is one of the greatest ways of showing love for others to him..." The self-preservation instinct focuses on family and security in relationships, Rody's perspective on food is about the connection with people. For him, good food is one of the greatest joys to experience in life and joy for him is his relationship with people. He pities Vince for not tasting "true love". All these points i make easily debunk E9 entirely and support E2 but i still want to touch on why he isn't SX9 at all. Rody's clinginess towards Manon isn't so that he can complete his lack of self but for his fragile ego to feel like he is being "good". He does all these actions to deserve love rather than to narcotisize in it or to merge with a person. I'm not denying that 9 in Rody doesn't exist, I'd even say it's his strongest fix but he fits into the core of 2 more than 9.
