I think he is perceived as Ne dom because of his humorous style. People only look for over-usage of Fi (in their terms, depression?) when it comes to INFPs so they get confused when they see an INFP with well-developed Ne. Why are INFPs alive if they can never be productive in their lives? And I think your writing style isn't meant to be based on your dominant function. Actually, I think INxPs tend to show more Ne in their ''works'', and ENxPs in their livings. Gaiman shows more Fi in his life, speeches, and advice. He uses child characters to describe Fi-based ideas, which are highly individualistic and far away from society's rules. ''Dominant Fi: Neil Gaiman is well known for encouraging people to always be true tho themselves, but he rarely mentions being true to others (“Do the things that only you can do,” etc.). Neil Gaiman’s principles and ethical views are internally based, and not based off of anything he has learned from his external world (“I think hell is something you carry with you, not somewhere you go.”). In his 2012 commencement speech, he admitted that as a new writer, he lied about publications on his job applications, but afterward made a point to have written for each of those publications. This goes to show that he makes decisions according to how he as an individual feels about them. He designs his own moral code, but lives by it strictly, and when asked if he had ever considered a career in ****** fiction, his immediate answer was, “Nope.” Neil Gaiman believes that it is important to prioritize his focuses, an he specifically mentions that in charting his path in life, he views himself as walking toward a mountain. With every decision, he rejects the ones that will carry him away from the top of the mountain, and focuses intently on the ones that carry him towards it.'' https://mbtifiction.com/2014/08/10/neil-gaiman-INFP/ I think this one explains well. And when we look into his wife, Amanda Palmer, who is an ENFP, we can see her using Ne (and Te) more than he does. Actually, I sometimes think she has a great impact on him to use Ne. Yet, he still needs to be alone with his thoughts and ideas. Lol, he has a CAVE for it. ''In my experience, writers tend to be really good at the inside of their own heads and imaginary people, and a lot less good at the stuff going on outside, which means that quite often if you flirt with us we will completely fail to notice, leaving everybody involved slightly uncomfortable and more than slightly unlaid.'' I also believe this one is a pensive Fi/Ti treat. He said he got INFJ but never actually read the definition of it, so I don't count it as taking the test...
