Samwell, nicknamed Sam, Tarly is the incumbent Grand Maester in the small council of King Brandon I Stark. After being disinherited and exiled to the wall by his father Lord Randyll Tarly of Horn Hill for his weakness in martial arts, Samwell developed a close friendship with fellow member of the Night’s Watch Jon Snow, whose true identity he personally discovered later on. At the trial of Tyrion Lannister at the Dragonpit, Samwell proposed that Westeros should be transformed into a democracy.
