If you look at how motivated he was to be successful at all costs through hard work, leadership and reinvention, and classic signs of disintegration to 9, it should be clear he is a core 3, but also one that is comfortable with his 6 fix. His 3 driven behaviors are often on autopilot, so it's not quite as clear in his image as for most 3s, but his and the band's outcomes are highly indicative of core 3. Billie has admitted to pushing himself to write lyrics for basically all waking hours of the day for long periods of time, to the point that it put him in a bad place psychologically. Yet he still did it for the success of the band and only after decades did he finally realize he needed to slow down for his own health. 3s are the epitome of not knowing how to slow down. After realizing the band's popularity was waning in the early 2000s and knowing C&V likely wouldn't help, he spearheaded the effort to reinvent the band's image and sound with American Idiot and accompanying media in order to ensure the band's business opportunities would be as successful as possible. He cared more about the band's success than being purely true to himself like a 4 fix or core, or really just kind of doing whatever like a 6 (lol). And he made it work. The way he works with the crowd is 3-like - extremely attentive, giving the fans what they want, but also somewhat detached. It's a tradeoff in focusing so much on what will look the most appealing for some sacrificed genuity. Core 6s do not really show this kind of focus and response to crowds. He has never shown integration to 9 like a 6. His 9 behaviors have always been that of a stressed 9 (ex. blvd of broken dreams and his subtle avoidance in interviews). That I feel should be enough for most people to realize he isn't a 6. And that because he obviously has strong 4 behavior (ex. unique aesthetic choice and deep lyrical introspection) - he must be a 3w4 and not a 3w2. When it comes down to choosing between 3 and 4, he chooses 3 - normal image over chaotic image - but still with a good mix of the 4 chaos. He really does not show strong core 6 behaviors. He may have a 6 fix, but it does not dominate his thought process. He isn't primarily associative and argumentative with others' perspectives like 6s are. He doesn't get too heated mentally over logical or philosophical minutia like head cores do. It's there to a medium degree at most. Up front and center is his love, image and motivation, things that come from the heart core. I have actually considered ENFP lately and think it's possible but I'm still having a hard time reconciling certain things. If he is ENFP, it is with an extreme lean on Se and Ni rather than Si.

Billie Joe Armstrong (born February 17, 1972) is an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor who is best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and guitarist of the punk rock band Green Day, which he co-founded with Mike Dirnt. He is also a guitarist and vocalist for the punk rock band Pinhead Gunpowder and provides lead vocals for Green Day's side projects Foxboro Hot Tubs and The Network.
