I read the novels and I still think he's a 7w6. He's got a lot of fears sure, but he definitely goes to a lot of lengths to convince himself that everything is fine. My main argument comes down to his core fears: He fears/resents causing others pain > being without security/support. He didn't keep his secrets to protect himself, as observed by Shintaro in novel 7; he was afraid of his friends hurting more than they had to. He has a strong 6 wing, yes, but his desire to minimize pain (in his case by keeping it to himself) and keep others happy overrides a sense of personal security. He has a lot more traits of an incredibly unhealthy 7w6 than a 6w7, such as rationalizing against his true feelings, putting on a happy guise, and openly wishing for others not to get too close (shown up front in the first chapter of novel 5, "the deceiving") . When the pressure is on, like when he got fed up with Kido or when he was posing as Ayano and Shintaro tried to talk to "her," he became explosive and impulsive with his words (this impulsivity is seen in the anime too). 6s, especially unhealthy ones, are too overtly anxious and desperate for trust for Kano to have a 6 core. Kano is more prone to distancing himself than clinging to others, as if he'd rather watch over them than be looked after himself. I would also like to note his 1 tendencies under stress (highly self-critical, need for structure, fearful of failure), and his 5 tendencies when growing (observant, self-reflective, thoughtful). In addition, he has the classic 7 thought process of "I cannot depend on others." He's incredibly loyal, yes, but he refuses to be a potential burden. TL;DR: strong 6 wing for certain, but his motives and actions and coping mechanisms and [dis]integrations still indicate a 7 core.

Mekakushi Dan Group Member No.3, he's rather laid back and he tends to smile all the time. He likes to tease and can be a flirt, but when it counts he's very reliable. His ability is to “Deceiving Eyes,” which he can use to change people's perception of the things around them, making them see something different from what's actually there. However, unlike Kido's ability which can affect other things within a certain distance from her, the effects of Kano's ability are only limited to himself anything or anyone he's making physical contact with.
